Dr. Buddhika Lokugamhewa

Dr. Buddhika Lokugamhewa is an accomplished Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician with over a decade of experience dedicated to enhancing the health and performance of athletes and active individuals. Currently serving as a Senior Registrar in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, he brings exceptional clinical expertise in diagnosing and managing musculoskeletal conditions, designing personalized rehabilitation programs, and implementing advanced injury-prevention strategies.

As an acting Consultant in the Sri Lanka Navy, Dr. Lokugamhewa has an extensive background in providing frontline medical care, emergency response, and physical-fitness supervision for service personnel. His commitment to sports extends beyond clinical settings—he has served as Team Physician for several national and institutional sports teams, including Sri Lanka Football, Sri Lanka Cricket, Zahira College Rugby, and Science College Mount Lavinia Rugby, contributing to the peak performance and safety of top-level athletes.

Dr. Lokugamhewa’s contributions to sports medicine education are equally significant. As a Resource Person for the College of Military Medicine and the University of Colombo, he conducts workshops on musculoskeletal medicine, sports trauma management, and clinical exercise prescription. His credentials include President’s Travelling Fellowship in Football Medicine and AFC Doping Control Certification, reflecting his ongoing commitment to professional excellence and ethical sports practice.

Beyond clinical and academic roles, Dr. Lokugamhewa actively serves as a Health Advisor for national sports bodies and the Ministry of Health, promoting physical-activity awareness among youth. His dedication, leadership, and holistic approach to sports health make him a vital member of our medical team—empowering patients to move better, recover faster, and perform at their best.
